Gloucestershire Regiment

    Gloucestershire Regiment Blue Cloth Helmet

This is a Victorian blue cloth helmet made by Hawkes & Co belonging to an officer of the Gloucestershire Regiment. It retains its original liner and shows very little wear.

The helmet is complete with the Gloucestershire Regiment's famous back-badge in gilt of a sphinx above the word Egypt encircled by a laurel wreath. The section of the rear metal bar immediately behind the badge is flattened in order to make room for it. On the front of the helmet, in the center of the plate in dark metal is a sphinx resting above the word Egypt. On the bottom of the plate is a scroll also in black metal reading "The Gloucestershire Regiment". The helmet has an accompanying tin which is unlabeled and retains none of its original paint.
